The arts are the lens through which we view
our history and often the lens through which we see our
future. Versailles is a living history whose lessons continue
to inspire artists and writers, musicians and statesmen
centuries after its walls have fallen silent to the affairs
of state that generated such tremendous beauty and turmoil.
For those lucky enough to have visited the chateau and its
inspiring grounds it is apparent that Versailles is not
a lesson that can be learned in one volume. Even today its
secrets and beauty continues to reveal themselves.
Patronage of the arts is a never-ending
obligation of every society and just as we encourage you
to support your local museum or orchestra or dance group,
we encourage you to, to give to Versailles to help maintain
a masterwork in the worlds cultural fabric. In Versailles,
France has created a lasting statement that is likely never
to be repeated.
